Messaging the Word

In some cases it may not be possible to meet in person when using the Hearing the Word studies. Here’s one approach to using an online messaging service (e.g. WhatsApp, Signal, Telegram) to make it work.

It relies on having a ‘Link person’.

To operate a messaging Bible study group, it is necessary to for someone to act as ‘link’ to co-ordinate those involved.

Unless someone does this for a group of people, it may start with enthusiasm, but then lose its way as folks get distracted and tied up in other things.

The ‘Link Person ’ role could include to:

1) Get agreement of participants on the Bible passage looked at and the time of the start of the study

2) Give a lead and text others on say – Mon, Thurs and Fri morning with some thoughts on the passage, encouraging others to participate. (see ‘The format’)

3) Suggest to others to look at leaders guide for the passage on the Website on Sunday.

4) Take a lead in sharing concerns for prayer.

5) Arrange a monthly ‘face to face’ meeting. (A regular arrangement is easiest)

6) Encourage invitation by the group of others to join and participate.

7) Initiate discussion of when to from a new group with a new ‘link’.
